ALCUE NET achieves progress on consolidation in bioeconmy

Based on an interview with Eduardo Trigo, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Argentina (MINCyT), International Relations Directorate

For Edurado Trigo ALCUE NET is most importantly an instrument for the advancement of CELAC - EU cooperation in key areas. In his specific area of interest, bioeconomy, the project already resulted in the consolidation of bioeconomy concepts and strategies in the CELAC region. In his opinion the project is contributing to set RTI cooperation into a broader political context and “that is good”, particularly because it helps to increase resource commitments on the part of the Latin American countries.  In this sense, ALCUE NET – specifically Work Package 4 which is led by CIRAD and MINCyT - has achieved to provoke a discussion on policy issues that are very important for the consolidation of the bioeconomy sector.  Especially interesting is the fact that this progress on consolidation in ALCUE NET is a consecutive reaction of earlier discussions initiated during the project ALCUE-KBBE. Thus, we see that cooperation in the area of bioeconomy has created a sustainable working process beyond the individual project level and with political impact.
In general, ALCUE NET contributes considerably to consolidating strategies in certain key areas of cooperation by politically pushing a more strategic orientation of the EU-CELAC scientific cooperation as a whole.
For Mr. Trigo ALCUE NET has already succeeded in linking cooperation to the political process which in his view is a big step forward over the previous case-by-case approach. More concrete results of this process are yet to become evident. Much of the success will depend on the ability of ALCUE NET to make the agenda of the SOM relevant. The real impact of ALCUE NET will be seen not on the level of the individual projects but when the coordination efforts result in program convergence on issues of common interest. To that ALCUENET can and will make a significant contribution.
